Let me just start by saying every day in Cape Town is beautiful (some are just more so than others). Today is a goooood day.. Got some good news work wise and holding thumbs. Me and the bumble bee went for a nice little scoot around town and now sitting outside tweeting, fbing, and blogging!!! LOVE IT! So far that's my day....
So last night I was suffering from an all too familiar case of sudden insomnia. Bored out of my gourd and just tweeting nonsense, when I met 2 super fun tweeters (besides the regular radio tweeters.. love you guys!). Anyway.... Tam (fellow insomniac), and Stephanie. Had a great conv with both, although Stephanie had to go to work (or at least that is the story I'm telling myself). What were the conversations about, you ask? That's just it! They were about nothing in particular and just 2 virtual people talking about whatever.
This morning I woke up and thought about how amazing the social networks are in the sense that people feel more open to be able to talk and "meet" new "friends". It takes the whole meat market atmosphere out of the equation. People (and ladies especially, correct me if I am wrong) don't have to worry, as much, about some rude dude/chica trying to pick on them and even if said dude/chica does, we can just ignore it with no real fear of consequence. It makes everything more comfortable. We all sit in our respective comfy spaces, wearing whatever we want (or not), and just chill.
So I've dubbed a new phenomenon called "The Stranger Effect" which suggests that putting people in their comfort zones opens them up to much more social engagement (at least online, which allows some to be someone they aren't but for the rest of us allows for more honesty). Now how does this help anyone... how does it help me... I have no idea, other than it allows me to have company when up at 4:00 am, and that's good enough for me.
So here is shouting love out to @Tam_mavericks and @StephanieBe
And my radio tweeters @MFM926 @2OVfm and last but never least @goodhopefm94297
Yes most of my blogging is complete nonsense and babbling... deal with it ;-)
I like you.
ReplyDeleteYou have a good sense of humor.
And you're right about The Stranger Effect (great name for it, by the way. I think people should have been calling it that for years. I think it's going to take pretty fast, so get the copyrights to it...you'll be rich in no time)It really does make people more comfortable to talk to random people.
I see that this is only your third post! Way to go me! I found you early on! haha It was just a random fluke that i found you, but i like your blog, so you've earned yourself another follower.
